He headed down to the tree where they used to sit and talk away the summer evenings. The spot that he headed to bore no outward differences from any other spot under a tree near the river, but he knew the spot in his heart. When he reached it, he sank slowly to his knees. He returned to this spot when he needed it, when the time was right. "My love," he spoke. "My love, I do not know how much longer I can go on. I long to be with you once more. It has been so long... so very, very long. My strength is wearing out. I am tired, and wish to come home." He sighed, then, closing his eyes and bowing his head. A moment later, he visibly gathered his will and his determination. His head came up, his eyes showing renewed focus over the exhaustion lying below. |
